Agripower were awarded the contract of constructing the 6th form infill pitch. The works involved constructing a full size rugby pitch situated within an artificial running track, constructed by G Thornton Contracts.
The pitch construction, designed by the STRI, was constructed over a type 1 sub-base and was firstly drained through the stone base to provide a free draining sub base. Over the new drainage a layer of 10mm shingle was placed and levelled using a laser controlled dozer. On the compacted shingle a 50mm layer of Shaugh grit 1-5mm was spread and levelled and again compacted evenly to avoid any settlement.
The base sand consisting of .125-1mm was then laid and firmed to give a depth of 125mm. The final layer of 70/30 rootzone mixture was laid to a firmed depth of 175mm, rolled, fertilised and seeded.
All works were executed to the finest tolerances and the end result more than met with the clients
expectations. The contract was completed ahead of schedule and a total of some 6500 tons was imported to provide Harrow School with a rugby pitch equal to a premiership club standard.
