Case Study:

Whitmore High School

Whitmore High School

Agripower Contractors were recently challenged with providing an alternative solution for a recreation area at Whitmore High School in Harrow on behalf of Kier Harrow projects. The original concept was to Construct a rootzone based natural turf area for all-year-round use as a breakout/recreation area. The grassed areas were bounded on three sides by three story buildings and the surface was to be elevated above the surrounding tarmac access paths. Initial thoughts were that the ongoing maintenance costs would be too high, especially when considering the shading and awkward access, that the only real option would be to look at artificial surfacing.

After the first site visit Agripower designed a specification to enable Kier to achieve a formation from which the finishing layers could be placed. The final design solution was To install a 50mm dynamic stone layer underneath a18mm Schmitz foam pad. The selected grass surface, Lano Easy Lawn Living +, was made by the client based on the feel and aesthetic appearance of the carpet.

All works were completed By Agripower's own staff ensuring high quality workmanship and complete control over delivery and installation. "With the facility being opened just two days after laying the grass there was no room for error" says Mark Swatton of Agripower, "Kier management and general staff were pragmatic and helpful, enabling speedy and painless construction phase."
